Marcus Bean

Self-taught chef, Marcus Bean, whose passion for cooking drove him to win Iron chef UK in 2010 on Channel 4. He’s lived in pubs since the age of 5 in and around Oxfordshire. At the age of 16 Marcus was working as a pig farmer, when his parents decided to up sticks and buy a pub in Shropshire. They asked him to move with them and help renovate and run their new pub.

While helping run the family pub, Marcus studied sound engineering in Manchester, as he originally wanted to pursue a career in the music industry but the time came, and in 2005 Marcus and his wife decided it was time to take on their first pub. After two years of employing chef’s and being let down, Marcus decided that it was time he got in the kitchen and started  teaching himself how to cook from scratch and create new and exciting dishes.

Having run the pub successfully for 5 years, Marcus found himself being selected as a contestant for Channel 4’s Iron Chef UK. He breezed through the first two rounds and went on to beat top chef Martin Blunos in the final! Not bad for someone who taught themselves to cook!

Following his success on the show, Marcus became a regular chef on ITV’s This Morning, cooking for Holly Willoughby & Phillip Schofield and other presenters on the show. He’s appeared on Good Food’s “Market Kitchen”, Channel 4′s “What’s cooking” & “Drop Down Menu”. Food Network’s Christmas special with Matt Tebutt & Lisa Faulkner.

In 2011 Marcus reached the semi-finals of National chef of the year with the Craft guild of Chefs.

Marcus has also written cookery articles & recipes for Hello Magazine, Foodie magazine London, Delicious magazine, Now magazine, Closer,  Shropshire Magazine & Stir it up magazine.

Marcus is now a regular host of the Super theatre at the BBC Good Food Shows around the country working on stage with JAmes Martin, Paul Hollywood, Mary Berry, Michel Roux Junior, Tom Kerridge and many more.

Attended the butchery course today, totally not my thing, I don't touch raw meat......but the course was AWESOME!! Overcame my fear of touching raw meat and learnt so much! Glad I haven't done a food shop yet this weekend, came away with so much food and after a delicious lunch, will not be eating tonight! Thank you
