Brompton is delighted to welcome Master of Wine Richard Bampfield to tutor a very special Champagne Tasting to coincide with the National Trust’s property
Attingham Park’s Festival of Food.

Richard is an experienced wine professional with over 27 years in the international wine business and is currently chairman of the Association of Wine Educators. One of only 250 Masters of Wine worldwide, Richard lectures regularly on all aspects of wine for the Wine & Spirit Education Trust. In 2009 Richard won the European Champagne Ambassador’s Award taking on competitors from seven other European countries.

‘Drinking Champagne is one of life’s great pleasures and helping others appreciate Champagne has always felt more like a labour of love than real work. I am really proud and excited to be European Champagne Ambassador 2009 and will be doing my best to ensure Champagne’s continued success – both as an educator and as a thirsty consumer.’

The evening will begin at 6.30 pm and will include fabulous canapés Come and have fun leaning something new about a wine we all love to drink. Prepare to be amazed!

Jonathan Hislop, an experienced lecturer in Wine Appreciation, will explore the challenges of choosing the most appropriate wine to complement food.

"When matching food and wine, the goal is balance"
Wine when drunk by itself tastes different than wine with food. The acids, tannins and sugars in the wine interact with the food to provide different taste sensations.

This course aims to identify some memorable food and wine pairings and celebrate the enjoyment and appreciation of wine and food.

Seven different styles of wine from around the world will be tasted and each wine, in turn, matched against a different food sensation.

Debate and discussion is encouraged and consensus may be reached!

This course examines the range of styles of red and white wines from classic areas such as Stellenbosch and Franshoek to the exciting terroirs of Elgin.

Discovering the wines of South America.

Chile and Argentina are capturing the headlines with their good value, approachable fruity wines. This course will examine a range of wines made from a selection of well known grape varieties as well as the lesser known ones such as Malbec, Torrontes and Carmeniere, which are becoming signature grape varieties for their respective countries.

Australian Shiraz and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc have become well regarded benchmarks of “New World” styles of wine and wine making. This course examines a range of different red and white wines from these two countries and compares and contrasts their styles.
